“But that’s not the way MOM used to do it”- A dedication to all of HIS moms on Mother’s Day and all the joy they have brought women across the nation.

momalways.JPG When I first hear of nightmare mother in laws and them giving you a hard time, I’ll be honest, I don’t think of my mother in law first. I think of the doll in that show “Everybody Loves Raymond”. It seems like that lady is always giving Raymond’s wife Deborah a hard time about SOMETHING. But what about the little things? I’m talking about the things the mom doesn’t do to us deliberately, but their sons, our men, when they say that little phrase we all love, “But that’s not the way mom used to do it.”

When my man and I were dating, I decided to try and impress him. You know what I’m talking about ladies. This is the phase in dating when you show them how great and domestic you are. You try and point out all the great and wonderous things you’re capable of doing so he realizes he could never find a woman quite as good as you, right? So we’re at that phase. I’m at his house visiting for the weekend, but he had to work one day. Great opportunity to set this idea in motion. He left and I jumped out of bed and started working. I scrubbed, I cooked, I did the laundry, I broke quite the sweat and boy did his place look good, sparkle, and smelled like heaven. (I like to think I’m a pretty good cook.)

Before he got home, I jumped in his shower, scrubbed myself, and dolled myself up to top off the effect. When he got there he was quiet. I wasn’t sure how to take this, so I asked him, “What do you think?” His only response, “It’s nice, but I like the bedspread with the other color up, and mom said that I should never fold my socks that way, let me show you how she taught me so you can get it right next time.” I’ll tell you what, I wanted to do a lot more with those socks than refold them, if you catch my drift.

I cannot wait until I have children of my own to fire up the women they love with how great I do everything. How about you?
